Friday, April 25:

  1. Oh Wilderness! 4pm-5pm. Mohican State Park Lodge/Resort; Lobby. A fun card game about the Great Outdoors. Test your knowledge and win prizes!

 

Saturday, April 26:

  1. Snakes of Ohio 10am-11am. Mohican State Park Lodge/Resort; Lobby. How well do you know snakes? Learn the facts from fiction. Learn what snakes live in your backyard and meet a few live friends that live at Mohican.
  2. Fly-fishing and Fly-tying Demonstration 10am-4pm. Presented by Mohican Fly Fishing Club. Meet at the Covered Bridge river access.
  3. Camping & Fishing Demonstration 10am-2pm. Join the outdoor staff from Gander Mountain for a brief talk and demonstrations on back country camping and fishing. Equipment on display at the covered bridge parking area by the river. Sponsored by Gander Mountain..."We live outdoors".
  4. Mill and Cabin Tours 12pm-5pm. Wolf Creek/Pine Grist Mill. Come see an 1831 operating grist mill in action. Tour the mill & early 1800s log cabins and get a glimpse of what life was like in pioneer times when Ohio was the new Wild frontier. ($3.00 entrance fee for adults over 21, $1.00 for ages 10-20, and under 10 free)
  5. Nature Oriented Scavenger Hunt 12pm-5pm. Wolf Creek/Pine Run Grist Mill. Hike our 3/4 mile loop trail on the ridge above the mill. Gather items at stations along one of Mohican steepest trails. Relax on the overlook deck and take some great pictures from its view point. Then kids turn in your scavenger items in our Welcome Center for a prize. ($3.00 entrance fee for adults over 21, $1.00 for ages 10-20, and under 10 free)
  6. Wild Herbal Hike 2pm-3pm. Mohican State Park Lodge/Resort; Lobby. The woodlands of Ohio are packed with plants that are old time remedies and cure-alls; some, not so old. We will hike to find them and talk about their uses. Some of it based in fact and some of it folklore.
  7. Columbus Zoo Program: “The animals that travel with Jack Hanna” 3pm-4pm. Wolf Creek/Pine Run Grist Mill. The Columbus Zoo will present a program that will give you the opportunity to learn about the animals that travel with Jack Hanna. Discover where they're from, what they eat, and possibly touch the birds, reptiles, and a variety of mammals. Bring chairs or blankets for the lawn. ($3.00 entrance fee for adults over 21, $1.00 for ages 10-20, and under 10 free)
  8. Bug Eating & Wild Edibles 5pm-6pm. Mohican State Park Lodge/Resort; Lobby. Oh yes we did! While some of you have learned to appreciate eating insects, it may not be a full snack. This year, with the help of the cooks from Bromfield’s Dining Room, we will have some recipe samples for you to try which include edibles from the wild!
  9. Ongoing Activities. Wolf Creek/Pine Run Grist Mill. Triple M Riding Rescue Ranch offering pony/horse rides in the arena, Amazing Moments animal themed face painting, and Mohican Valley Art Show display. Also nature related arts & crafts for junior explorers including making a bird feeder, decorating your own animal mask, and a scavenger hunt. Concession items available: pizza, popcorn, chips, candy and ice cream.

 

Sunday, April 27:

  1. Fly-fishing and Fly-tying Demonstration 10am-4pm. Presented by Mohican Fly Fishing Club. Meet at the Covered Bridge river access.
  2. Turtle Mania 10am-11am. Mohican State Park Lodge/Resort; Lobby. Meet some of our resident live turtles. We will talk about a great story and learn what you can do to help these wonderful critters.  
  3. Mill and Cabin Tours 12pm-4pm. Wolf Creek/Pine Grist Mill. Come see an 1831 operating grist mill in action.   5. Wildflowers & More 2pm-4pm. Hemlock Gorge Trail. Meet at the end of B Camp located at The Covered Bridge area; drive through the picnic area. Mohican offers some of the best flora and fauna in the state. This is a two mile hike and will be muddy. A shuttle will take us back to the start. You may want to bring or borrow binoculars. Warning: sure to be inspiring!
