Friday April 27th:
- Birds & More 4pm-5pm. Mohican State Park Lodge/Resort; Lobby The Mohican Lodge offers some of the most spectacular and rewarding birding in North Central Ohio. From Eagles to loons to woodpeckers, take a short hike along a paved path for a wonderful start to the day. Path is less than 1 mile. Bring binoculars or borrow them from us!
- Batty About Bats with Merrill Tawse 8pm. Each evening from miles around, bats travel to the covered bridge area of Mohican State Park to forage for food. Participants should dress for cooler temperatures, bring flashlights, and meet at the Covered Bridge. This program will be canceled in case of rain or high winds.
Saturday April 28th:
- Scatology 10am-11:30am. Mohican State Park Campground A- Commissary (camp store) Most big furry animals are rarely seen because they are nocturnal or they run away from people. We know they are here because of what they leave behind; we find signs. We can learn many things from scat. Let’s take a closer look at what most folks wouldn’t want to.
- Guide Series Fly-fishing Equipment Workshop 10am-12pm. Presented by Gander Mountain. Meet at the Covered Bridge parking lot.
- Fly-fishing and Fly-tying Demonstration 10am-4pm. Presented by Mohican Fly Fishing Club. Meet at the Covered Bridge river access.
- Makin’ Tracks 12pm- 2pm. Mohican State Park Campground A- Commissary (camp store) Predators are part of the picture. Some of that picture can be looked at from signs they leave behind in their habitat such as tracks. Come and join us to take a look at some tracks of predators and make a plaster track of your favorite animal hunter. This program is sure to be a little messy!
- Back to the Wild 12pm-5pm. Wolf Creek Pine Run Grist Mill. In this presentation, you will see several live hawks, owls and a Bald Eagle. There will also be a live Flying Squirrel, salamanders, a toad, several native snakes and other wildlife related artifacts. $2.00 per person for 10 years of age and over.
- Edible Insects 4-5pm. Mohican State Park Lodge/ Resort; Lobby While eating insects is not rare throughout the world; it is unusual in North America. Come and find out why some people think eating insects can help the world. Samples and recipes will be available! Warning: Could be gross!
- Bird of Prey Show 8pm. Mohican State Park Resort. Enjoy an up close experience with a variety of Ohio’s bird species. A 30 minute presentation that is fun and educational.
Sunday April 29th:
- Skins & Skulls 10am-11am. Mohican State Park Lodge/ Resort; Lobby Come and take a quiz on mammals. See how good you are at identifying animals found in Ohio. Find out some interesting facts about the life histories of animals we share our surroundings with.
- Fly-fishing and Fly-tying Demonstration 10am-4pm. Presented by Mohican Fly Fishing Club. Meet at the Covered Bridge river access.
- Wildflowers & More 12pm-2pm. Hemlock Gorge Trail/ Meet at the end of B Camp located at The Covered Bridge area; drive through the picnic area. This is the best time of year for spring wildflowers. Mohican State Park offers some of the best flora and fauna in the state. This is a two mile hike and will be muddy. A shuttle will take us back to the start. You may want to bring or borrow binoculars. Warning: Sure to be inspiring!
